We Have the Power!

One issue I had with the campervan was the lack of mains power. Everything was fitted but the electricity wasn’t reaching the socket! Ideally I’d have gone back to the converter but it’s a long drive down there.

The difficulty was accessing the relevant bits as it’s all buried behind the kitchen unit. In theory the unit is easily removable, it is for a given value of easily. Once the gas bottle and battery were removed, and I’d emptied out the pans, etc. there are only two bolts to undo and the whole unit lifts out. I didn’t actually need to get it all the way to get access. The converter had replaced an original trim panel with a wooden one. That had the consumer unit and a socket fitted, there’s then a lead that plugs in to take the power to the socket on the kitchen unit. It’s a neat enough arrangement.

Having checked the consumer unit connections I then checked the socket. All three cables had been pushed too far in so the insulation was clamped, not the wire. I’m annoyed more by the fact it hadn’t been checked and found than the original error.

Having emptied the cooking stuff out it made sense to give it all a wash ready for the new season. First camping trip will be to Norfolk for a long weekend, at least now it it’s cold I can
use the fan heater.
